No you dont have to train it there is an npc that you talk to (I don't remeber her name) and she will spawn 4 of the pet you chose.

Can I say that given it is trivial to charm any pet, and they are all the same in terms of what they do, you might want to spend money on something more useful.
Half the fun of the Menagerie is adding pets you pick up in your travels, and once you do, you can choose any evolution you please.

Oh ok, so what your saying is if I train a wolf for example & bring it to the zaishen menagerie I will be granted access to additional wolves of all evolutions?
Like, right now I have a level 20 hearty wolf. If I bring it to the menagerie will I be able to change it to dire, or do I acquire a different wolf that is dire & train that? Does it start at level 20?
Sorry for all the silly questions!

If you add a level 20 hearty or dire pet to the menagerie, that unlocks the top tier for that pet, which means that the trainer will summon any level and evolution of that pet for you to charm. So, if you bring a level 20 hearty wolf, you can ask the trainer to summon a level 20 dire wolf and no training will be needed.

There are certain pets/evolutions of certain pets that can deal certain types of damage, so sometimes its useful to switch between PvE and PvP.
But I do agree that its much more fun to go out and find them and train them yourself. The menagerie is just great because I only have to train everything once.
